Rent a car if…
You're travelling with children or elderly companions. You have more than one carry-on bag per person. You plan to drive to Apeiranthos, Apollonas or the mountain interior (the switchbacks and distance make a car far more comfortable than a scooter or ATV). You want air conditioning - Naxos reaches 36°C in August. You're driving at night or in uncertain weather. A small car like the Suzuki Baleno or Peugeot 208 costs €60–80/day from our fleet in peak season, includes 24/7 roadside assistance coverage and handles every paved road on the island. It's the default sensible choice for most travellers.
Rent a scooter if…
You're a couple or solo, travelling with no more than a small daypack each. Your itinerary is coastal (Prokopios, Plaka, Agia Anna, Mikri Vigla on paved roads). The forecast is reliably sunny for your whole trip. You have a motorbike or scooter licence - or, for 50cc, any driving licence. Our Piaggio Liberty 125cc and Sym Symphony 125cc are the most popular choices: comfortable for two riders, fast enough for the Naxos road network, and €35–45/day. The 50cc options are cheaper but genuinely slow on the long climbs to Apollonas or Apeiranthos.
Rent a buggy or ATV if…
You're planning a serious day at Alyko, Mikri Vigla's south track, Pyrgaki or any of the unpaved coastal paths in the south. A standard car cannot legally or safely access these tracks under any rental contract on Naxos. Our Polaris Buggy (4-seat, open-top, roll cage) and CFMoto ATV handle them with ease. Both require only a standard car licence (Category B). The Polaris costs around €100–120/day - more than a small car, but the experience of driving through Alyko's cedar forest in an open buggy with the Aegean in front of you is genuinely incomparable. Book in advance: buggy slots sell out weeks ahead in July and August.
The hybrid plan most guests love
Small car for the whole trip (Chalki, Filoti, Apeiranthos, Apollonas, all the main beaches) + one day of buggy or ATV specifically for the south-coast adventure. The total cost is almost exactly the same as renting a buggy for the whole week. You get the practicality of a car with luggage and the freedom of a buggy on the day it actually matters.
